Vaccinations & Other Precautions
You should consult your doctor at best a couple of months before your
planned departure to allow ample time to have all the required vaccinations.
Although doctors are aware of the basic requirements concerning travel
to Tibetan areas it is wise to consult specialists in the tropical medicine
field
- Recommended vaccinations include:
Rabies, Meningitis, Typhoid, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Tetanus, Yellow
Fever, Japanese Encephilitis, Polio, Tuberculosis, Cholera.
- Other health concerns include:
Malaria (especially for Nepal and India), Dysentery (Bacilliary & Amoebic),
Giardia.
You should always be careful with drinking water, make sure it is either
boiled or treated with iodine to avoid waterborne disease (Dysentery and
Giardia). In malaria areas you should cover up, use liberal amounts of
repellent and seriously consider taking prophylactics. These areas change
and the emergence of drug resistant strains means you should check with
a vaccination or tropical medicine center before you travel to the region.
